Equinox did a wonderful job completing a 2 1/2 year 34 acre stream mitigation and wetlands restoration project on our farm in Henderson County. In addition, they served as general contractor on a 1400 foot drainage ditch and have provided invasive species control. Finally, they completed a phase 1 examination prior to the stream project. As with every construction project there were several times when unforeseen problems arose and Equinox did a remarkable job providing a solution that made everybody happy.
The stream project was completed During the wettest year on record for the area. I know this caused tremendous issues but the job was completed on time and Equniox did not change any facets of the agreed-upon project. As you can imagine, we also had some difficult issues with neighbors and Equinox did an incredible job of listening and being patient to solve those concerns. Once again, everybody emerged happy.
As a landowner, you don’t see this kind of project every year. It is certainly unique. Equinox spent many hours and countless trips to help us understand the concept in detail prior to beginning. As we come up on year two after completion, I am blown away by the remarkable beauty of the completed project. The property has turned out just as Equinox described before they started; it has significantly exceeded our expectations. A traditional, conservative neighbor who was initially skeptical, excitedly described to me a few weeks ago how the conservation easement was a wildlife corridor. He had just seen a bald eagle flying on the property.
The most pleasant part of the project was becoming true friends with all involved from Equinox. Their interests were completely aligned with ours which is rare. The Equinox project manager had actually completed a similar restoration on his farm which was added comfort. One of the most important reasons we chose Equinox in this competitive bid process was their expertise in other matters of land management. I could tell with the other companies trying to partner with us that we would never see them again after completion of the restoration project. We now have a six-year relationship with Equinox and have other projects coming up with them. We wanted a lifetime partner for our farm and that’s exactly what we got.
